Eastern Orthodox Christians (EOC) believe Apostolic Succession ensures the church that Christ and the Apostles started doesn't go astray.
Protestants would hold to the Bible as the authority. If the the church moves away from the teaching of the bible in this "succession" then they have gone astray by adding to the Scriptures.
EOC believe the Bible to be 39 Old Testament, 27 New Testament books, and the Apocryoha.
Protestants hold the position that the Apocrypha is not inspired by the Holy Spirit.
EOC believe the waters of Baptism regenerate babies. The bible shows Baptism being done after one has faith, not before.
EOC believe the Eucharist makes Christ's sacrifice present and therefore forgiveness of sins is obtained through it.
Protestants reject the sacrificial nature of the Eucharist and believe the bread and wine are symbolic.
EOC believe Saints can be invoked in prayer to act as intercessors between God and Man.
Protestants believe Christ is the only mediator between God and Man. We shouldn't contact the dead in prayer.
EOC believe Salvation is obtained in "faith working through love" and is a life long process. Works and repentance are mentioned as being meritorious for salvation. The emphasis on the book of James is the go to book for Roman Catholics and EOC.
Protestants believe Salvation is obtained "by grace though faith alone" as a free and unmerited gift of God to man. Through Christ's atoning sacrifice, we are declared righteous or justified in his sight long before any fruit of repentance or works come into play; although repentance and works are expected from those who are true Christians.
