Christian Science Church
Christian Science Church
This church is theologically defined as a cult because it rejects Essential Christian Doctrine.
Mary Baker Eddy (July 16, 1821 – Dec 3, 1910) was the founder of the Christian Science movement or The Church of Christ, Scientist (CCS), as a spiritual solution to health and moral issues. She wrote Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, founded The First Church of Christ, Scientist of Boston in 1879, and several periodicals including The Christian Science Monitor. She was influenced by mental healer Phineas P. Quimby (1802-1866). Quimby believed that illness and disease could be cured through positive thoughts and healthy attitudes, by changing one’s beliefs about the illness.
RED FLAGS
1) Christian Scientists do not use doctors, medicine, or immunizations. Christian Science Practitioners are used to ” help people through the false reality of illness.” The right of Christian Science parents to withhold medical treatment from their children has many times been challenged in court.
The truth is, God uses everything to heal people, including doctors. So when you fail to see the doctor that the Lord has put in your path, you are not following God’s will. Think of how you first heard the gospel. I suspect it was from a person that God used. Seeds are planted and watered by numerous people.
2) One is only supposed to read the Bible if they have Eddy’s “key” in hand, so as to find out what a passage means, because the bible is full of errors. This is in opposition to the essentials of the Christian faith; one being that the bible is divine rather than merely human in origin and there are no errors.
3) They believe Adam was not an actual person who was created by God and fell into sin, therefore denying the need for a Savior.
4) They reject the Trinity.
5) They reject the perfection of the man, Jesus.
6) They reject the Holy Spirit being a person.
7) They believe Jesus never physically died on the cross to atone for sins. He demonstrated that sin and death are illusions and that if one wishes to rid themselves of these illusions, they only need to deny their reality. On the morning of the resurrection, the supposed physical body of Jesus was reproduced in its original illusionary form. They deny the existence of all matter, except the 12 story building they refuse to jump off. They deny the existence of the physical body, except the body that would splat like a bug 12 stories below. They believe man is “incapable of sin, sickness, and death.”
9) They deny the existence of Satan and Hell.
10) They believe God is all good and nothing that is real exists outside God.
Peter builds on this understanding (1 Pet 2:24).
