Adam

Did Adam have a belly button?

“Daddy, why do we have belly buttons and you don’t?”

Adam answered, “because I was created by God.”

This conversation is not recorded in the bible, but we can only  imagine the questions his children had.

Genesis 2:7

then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life,

and the man became a living creature.

Is the story of Adam a myth ?

Some critical scholars consider the first chapters of Genesis to be a myth. If the story of Adam is a myth, the whole Christian faith falls apart. There would be no need for a second Adam (Jesus Christ) to save humanity from sin. Genesis is a Hebrew historical narrative with poetic elements. Poetic elements do not take away from the historical truths. The bible presents Adam and Eve as literal people, who had real children from whom the rest of the human race descended. Old Testament chronologies place Adam at the top of the list. This is historical, not mythical.

Luke 3:38

the son of Enosh, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God.

Jesus referred to Adam and Eve as the the first literal “male and female” making their physical union the basis of marriage.

Matthew 19:3-5

Then some Pharisees came and tested Him by asking, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any reason?” Jesus answered, “Have you not read that from the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female’ and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’?

Romans 5:12

When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam's sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned.
